Abstract

The variation with temperature of the lattice constant and paramagnetic susceptibility of CePd3 are reproduced theoretically on the basis of a model which takes into account the interaction of conduction- andf-electrons and the finite width of thef-band. The same model, with added exchange, yields quantitative agreement with susceptibility measurements on UNi5−xCux compounds (x=5 and 4.6). The theory also supplies a microscopic basis to the phenomenological model of Sales and Wohlleben.
