Abstract

Background: Percutaneous Transluminal Septal Myocardial Ablation (PTSMA) is an alternative to myectomy for symptom relief in selected patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM). Limited intermediate to long-term outcome data exists. Objectives: To assess short, intermediate and long-term clinical and procedural outcomes after PTSMA at an Australian tertiary institution. Methods: Fifty-seven procedures were performed in 51 patients (mean age 58± 15 years, 59%male) between 2000 and 2008. Assessment of symptoms, echocardiographic parameters, complications, repeat procedures, myectomy/valve surgery and death were analysed. Follow-up was 100% (median 26 (13, 64) months).
