Abstract

It is suggested that intermediate resonance structure in the energy dependence of nuclear cross sections can be interpreted in terms of the excitation of particularly simple configurations of the compound system. The observed structure can arise from the formation of three-quasiparticle states in the compound system. (C.E.S.)
