Abstract

As a novel interleukin-1 (IL-1) family member,IL-36 shares homologous amino acid sequence and similar signaling pathways with classical IL-1 family cytokines.A high expression of IL-36 is mainly observed on epidermal cells, dendritic cells and CD4+ T lymphocytes.IL-36 shows a stronger ability to regulate and activate immunoreaction than other IL-1 family cytokines, which may indicate a relatively more important role of IL-36 in immune response.Further more,it has been implied that IL-36 plays an essential role in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus.Therefore,IL-36 maybe a promising molecule for future research into systemic lupus erythematosus. Key words: Lupus erythematosus, systemic; Autoimmunity; Interleukin-36
