Abstract

In article number 2000614, Roland Gillen addresses simulations of the optical spectra of bilayer MoSe2/WSe2 heterostructures using modern theoretical spectroscopy methods. Due to the complex electronic band structure, optical excitation of such heterostructures by incident light (top image on the cover) gives rise to a variety of excitonic resonances in the absorption spectra (middle panel). Here, ab initio simulations reveal contributions from excitons with large interlayer charge separation both below the absorption onset (left side of bottom panel) and as novel ‘interlayer C excitons’ within the band continuum at higher energies (right side of bottom panel).
