Abstract
The magnetization curves associated with domain wall translation in magnetic bilayers with antiferromagnetic coupling are calculated. New features contrasting with the magnetization processes for single layers are found. First, the virgin magnetization curves are characterized by an intrinsic coercivity that has its origin in the interlayer exchange coupling. Second, the magnetization curves of bilayers demonstrate a hysteresis due to the exchange interaction potential between domain walls in adjacent layers. We show also how the exchange coupling constant can be evaluated from the magnetization curve measurements.
