Abstract

The large fuselage cross‐section has made it possible to provide a particularly spacious flight deck which handsomely exceeds that of the previously notable Stratocruiser in the generosity of its proportions. The provision of comfortable crew working space is, of course, of particular importance in a strategic transport which may be airborne for up to eighteen hours on a flight refuelled mission. The psychological importance of pleasant decor even in a military transport has been recognized and accordingly the flight deck has been styled with the co‐operation of Charles Butler Associates Ltd. Two complete crews may be carried on the Belfast in which sleeping accommodation is provided for the off‐duty crew in addition to the more usual rest facilities.
