Abstract
The amylolytic yeast Saccharomycopsis fibuligera K-33 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were used to breed a hybrid by protoplast fusion. S. fibuligera K-33 produced glucoamylase and α-amylase. The intergeneric protoplast fusion frequency was 1.95 × 10 −4. Fusant 10-1, which enhanced α-amylase production, produced 3.1% (v/v) ethanol in a 10% soluble starch medium at 3 d. The amylase activity of the fusant was 2.5 times higher than that of the parental strain K-33 at 2 d.
