Abstract
The renin–angiotensin system is one of the key long-term regulators of blood pressure and has been a mainstay for the treatment of cardiovascular and renal diseases for the last 30years. In recent years, new components of the renin–angiotensin system have been discovered beyond the classical pathway that have led to the development of novel therapies targeting this system. Moreover, dual inhibitors which block the renin–angiotensin system and other systems involved in the regulation of blood pressure may provide superior treatment for cardiovascular and renal diseases.
