Abstract

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signal carries most important information in the cardiology. Care should be taken to avoid interference in the ECG. This chapter discusses ECG signals with the help of infinite-impulse-response (IIR) digital filter. To avoid too many computations, IIR digital filters have fewer coefficients and potential of sharp roll-offs, which is acceptable for real-time processing. In this chapter, an attempt has been made to generate ECG waveforms with the help of a suitable MATLAB model. Coefficients of IIR digital filter are worked out with genetic algorithm (GA). Using designed filter, the ECG signal was de-noised by removing the interference. Results clearly indicate that there is noise reduction in the ECG signal.
