Abstract

Abstract 2,3,4,4,5,6-Hexachloro-2,5-cyclohexadien-lone (2,5-HCP), if present in commercial pentachlorophenol (PCP), will interfere with the gasliquid chromatographic analysis of octachlorodibenzo- p-dioxin (OCDD). Different columns (10% UCW-98 and 5% OV-1) and temperature programming were tried without success in separation. 2,5-HCP chromatographed alone at 250°C does break down into several components, one matching the retention time of PCP (0.92 min). The major component eluted within 0.06 min of OCDD.
