Abstract
Pulse position and frequency modulation (PPFM) is proposed as a new modulation to mitigate narrow-band interferences (NBIs) in multiband wireless communications. PPFM is proposed based on conventional pulse position modulation (PPM), where in PPFM position of a pulse is changed both in time and frequency. Then we propose a demodulating (receiving) algorithm for PPFM modulated signal which makes it possible to correct some errors which are occurred by NBI and therefore makes the system robust against strong NBIs. This technique does not require any information about NBI and it works in situations with unknown NBI. As a proof of concept, an application in ultra wideband (UWB) communication is proposed with a new multiband UWB scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed technique is highly robust against NBI and PPFM offers a good opportunity to mitigate NBIs.
