Abstract

AbstractWind load on tall square-shaped buildings for wind incidence angle of 0° in isolated condition can be easily estimated by using the available code of practice. But for other wind incident angles and to study the effect of the presence of the interfering building on principal building, there is need to conduct wind tunnel tests. In this study, 10 storeys building with square cross-section and having 4 bays in both the direction is analyzed for different wind incident angles (0°, 30°, 60°) by using the values of pressure coefficient at different nodes for determining parameters like deflection and bending moment. Furthermore, the interference effect by varying the distance (y = 0, 1/2b, b, 3b/2, 2b) between upstream interfering building and the principal building is also investigated. This analysis is performed by using the Standard package STADD.Pro V8i software, and the wind pressure coefficient for different angles of wind incidence and for various configurations of interference is obtained by conducting a wind tunnel test; the results are recorded in form of pressure contours. Later, various locations of shear wall are analyzed and ideal location is found out. Shear walls play important role in reduction of lateral forces. With the use of shear walls at central core of building, deflection is decreased by large amount as compared to other configuration of shear walls.KeywordsWind loadingInterference effectIS 875 (part-3)Tall buildings
