Abstract
The coexistence issues between UWB and WiMAX systems at 3.5GHz frequency band has been recently attached much attention. For investigating the potential interference of ultra-wideband (UWB) on a WiMAX system, an analysis method based on the physical layer modeling was presented. The physical layer models of impulse radio (IR) UWB, multi-band orthogonal frequency division multiplex (MB-OFDM) UWB and WiMAX systems were both set up based on the physical specifications of each system. Moreover, two realistic UWB channel models in indoor environment were adopted for numerical performance derivations. According to the requirement of bit error rate (BER) and the receiver sensibility of WiMAX, a reference value of UWB emission power limit was obtained at 3.5GHz operating band of WiMAX. Since we take full consideration of the entire physical structures and technical characteristics of UWB and WiMAX systems, as well as the actual multipath propagations of UWB, our numerical technique thoroughly reflects the effect of real systems and provides an effective solution for coexistence analysis between UWB and other vulnerable system.
