Abstract

TiC ceramic particles reinforced Fe-based composite coatings were prepared, and melting under a GTAW torch. Morphologies and products of the interfacial layers were examined by SEM and XRD, respectively, and the friction properties of the coatings were also investigated. The results show that Fe9.64Ti0.36 intermetallic compound forms in the interfacial layer, and the thickness of the interfacial layer of composite coating is about 0.5 mm under the current GTAW parameters. The friction properties decrease while increasing the coating thickness to above 0.5 mm, and the friction properties of interfacial layer are higher than that of surface TiC coating. The thickness of the reaction layer plays more important role on the friction properties than TiC coating.
