Abstract

The integration of business information systems is actually not a new challenge. To facilitate business tasks, enterprise applications must communicate with one another and share data (Deitel et al., 2003). Therefore, corresponding standardisation activities have been conducted to obtain integrated information systems. The main goal of this paper is to give a general review of relevant standards in the area of business information systems integration, which can be applied in learning systems as well. At first, selected data exchange standards, especially the Extensible Markup Language (XML) are being described. After that, corresponding infrastructure standards, like the Open Management Architecture (OMA) and Web services are reviewed. Recommendations for future works are being suggested as part of the conclusion.
