Abstract

The necessity of establishing the determination methodology of the mathematical model of the machine tool joint becomes more important recently. In this study, thus, the interface pressure distribution of the bolt-flange assembly under complex loading condition was measured by means of the ultrasonic waves method. From the results, it can be observed that the initial tightening force and roughness of joint surface have large influence on the change of the interface pressure distribution due to the external loading (bending moment). On the basis of the experimental evidences, furthermore, the data available for the determination of the mathematical model have been arranged. For instance, the data available for the determination of the mathematical model have been arranged. For instance, the pressure effective area is largely moved when the bending moment commences to effect, but it is not so large at the further loading. In addition, in both the cases, the pressure effective area are, in general, maintained as the same as that under no external loading.
