Abstract

We have investigated to reduce the contact resistance of organic field effect transistor (OFET) of the phenyl-benzothienobenzothiophene derivative (Ph-BTBT-10) with silver source-drain electrodes. Ph-BTBT-10 OFETs with silver electrodes show very low FET mobility and high contact resistance because the work function of silver has a large energy level misalignment with the highest occupied molecular orbital level of Ph-BTBT-10. The silver electrodes treated with self-assembled monolayers, pentafluorobenzenethiol (PFBT) and tetrafluoro-(trifluoromethyl)-benzenethiol (TTFP), show high work function and archive small contact resistance with Ph-BTBT-10. The Ph-BTBT-10 OFETs with TTFP-Ag electrodes achieved a high mobility of 1.5 cm2/Vs, and a small contact resistance of 2.1 kΩ cm.
