Abstract

Nowadays, particular attention is devoted to the vibroacoustic comfort of vehicles in automotive industry. At ETH Zurich therefore the interface damping was investigated for damping vibrations in automobiles. The interface damping provides specific performances and covers some drawbacks of the conventional surface dampers. Interface damping exploits a viscoelastic material, for example an adhesive bond, at the interface between the panel and its peripheral components, wherein a soft and flexible interface is formed that can add significant damping to the panel.
