Abstract

Deploying multicast communication in mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is a challenging and an intricate issue. This paper proposes a novel idea of hiring an intelligent and smart agent called multicast monitoring mobile agent (M³A) to evaluate the genuineness of downstream multicast router interface in the secure multicast distribution tree backed by Iolus framework. The security vulnerabilities plaguing this unique wedding are emboldened by the incidence of hand-off and Sybil attack. The foot print of these two attacks on multicast routing inflates the copies of multicast packet stored in duplicate packet store (DPS) of the multicast coordinator (MC²)/group head for the discontinued and duplicated group member due to Sybil attack. This agent periodically compares the dynamic delivery threshold limit (D²TL) and packet replication rate (PR²) of the downstream router interface and issues an alarm if a mismatch occurs. The overall objective and contribution of this paper is to ensure consistent and continued sustenance of the multicast packet delivery ratio (MPDR) in the Sybil and hand-off inflicted MANET by deploying a smart agent.
