Abstract

The aim of paper is to present the level of respondents interest in the commune affairs. The results of the analyzes presented in this paper come from surveys conducted using a questionnaire survey among residents of rural communes in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. After rejecting incomplete and/or-illogical questionnaires, 2409 respondents were qualified for the analysis. The research results indicate the interest in local affairs is low. More than half of respondents (56%) aren’t interested in that. It means that the development of civil society based on interest, cooperation, and involvement will be difficult. This research is part of the assessment of an important factor of social capital, which is interest in local affairs, giving the opportunity to use the results in building civic society and local development strategies.
