Abstract

Multilayers of PbS Pb 1−x Ca x S (x = ∼ 0.06, ∼ 0.12) multi-quantum well (MQW) structures were grown by hot wall epitaxy and the interdiffusion coefficient of Ca was determined by optimizing the observed X-ray diffractograms with simulation. The interdiffusion coefficient D of Ca at 743 K was estimated to be D = 3 × 10 −22 m 2/s within an accuracy of a factor of two. The small value of D makes the multilayers adequate for fabricating mid-infrared laser diodes with MQW structures.
