Abstract

During the last decade much research work has been spent in search of effective and reliable techniques for software development. For the programmer, the probably most significant result from this effort is the availability of advanced programming environments. These tools typically concentrate on the implementation aspects of software development. The installation and modification of software on its production sites still is a neglected item - in regard to both methods and tools. This paper presents an approach to the maintenance of distributed applications. Although these software systems are more difficult to maintain than average (i.e. non-distributed) ones, they provide - on account of the distributed system on which they are installed - an excellent technical basis for maintenance operations.
