Abstract

This paper summarizes a study to identify the most suitable theories (models) for representing the near-bottom kinematics due to waves and/or currents. The basis for the evaluation of the various models included comparison of models with field and laboratory data and intercomparison of various models. Wave theories evaluated included two versions of the linear wave theory, the Stokes II, III and V order theory, the Cnoidal theory, the Extended Velocity Potential theory and the Stream Function theory.
