Abstract

An inter-comparison has been performed of probabilistic and deterministic sensitivity calculations with the objective to check and validate the Monte Carlo technique for calculating point detector sensitivities as being implemented in MCSEN, a local version of the MCNP4A code. A suitable 14 MeV neutron benchmark problem on an iron assembly has been considered to this end. Good agreement has been achieved for the calculated individual sensitivity profiles, the uncertainties and the neutron flux spectra as well. It is concluded that the Monte Carlo technique for calculating point detector sensitivities and related uncertainties as being implemented in MCSEN is well qualified for sensitivity and uncertainty analyses of fusion neutronics integral experiments.
