Abstract

Single carrier OFDM (SCOFDM) has received considerable attention now a days as an alternate technology to OFDM due to its low peak to average power ratio (PAPR) advantage as well as immunity to frequency nulls of the channel. Just like OFDM, the inter carrier interference (ICI) caused due to Carrier frequency offset (CFO) results in significant performance degradation of SCOFDM. The common technique employed in cancelling CFO is estimating the parameter with the help of pilot sequence and then cancelling its effect at the receiver. Such strategy results in loss of data rate and reduction in bandwidth efficiency. Also the performance is far away from ideal (no CFO) case. An analysis of the effect of CFO on the performance of SCOFDM system is presented in this paper and using the results of analysis, an interference cancellation technique utilizing the properties SCOFDM is proposed. The proposed scheme ensures interference free performance at the cost of slight increase in receiver complexity. The proposed scheme have high bandwidth efficiency since it does not use any pilot symbols for CFO estimation. The performance of the system is analysed and compared with the existing schemes. The simulation results validates the effectiveness of the proposed scheme over its counterparts.
