Abstract

Interactive video (IV) technology, with the combination of computers and video, represents a powerful tool in the field of instructional technology. This article first reviews the historical development of interactive technology. Then three major areas of current developments and future directions of IV technology are discussed: features of hardware and software, material design, and applications in education. Related issues like learner control, intelligent tutoring systems, material design strategies, and obstacles to educational applications are examined as well.
