Abstract
Truly interactive simulation requires on-line editing and immediate execution of programs without any noticeable delay for translation. These requirements are satisfied by the new MICRODARE III system, which executes high-level equation-language programs at nearly assembly-language speed on a DEC PDP-11/44, and at twice assembly-language speed on a user-micro- programmable LSI-11. Specifically designed for real- time control of laboratory instrumentation, MICRODARE uses fixed-point scaled fractions. A similar language using floating-point arithmetic and offering a choice of several precompiled integration routines is pro posed for future interactive simulation systems.
