Abstract
Cartographic drawing from manual work to computer-aided design has made a great achievement. We can interactively draw, edit, manipulate, render geographical map by means of computer drawing applications. These drawing functionalities, up to now, are mainly accomplished by Windows applications, not Web applications. With the developing of Rich Internet Application (RIA) or Silver light, some researchers or scientists intend to take a studying and exploring on vector graphic drawing within the RIA environment. This paper, keeping in step with development of RIA or Silver light, studies on interactive cartographic drawing on Silver light platform, explores some Geometry and Shape drawing functions and XAML-only or code-only implementations. Finally, typically taking a map symbol scarp for an example, we illustrate the scarp's components and their relationships and the characteristic point coordinates computing, implement a program to draw interactively scarp symbol and some primary vector graphics.
