This type of multiple membership may bring about confusion, particularly in terms of the methodologies and analysis levels involved in “institutional discourse” and “professional discourse.” Professional discourse encompasses not only the language used by professionals, as this may also be perceived as the “new work order” in which workers are empowered through increasing their work motivation. It is important to note that “professionals” should refer not only to those who are traditionally perceived as such, but to other workers such as telephone operators, teachers, etc. This chapter defines the discourse system and the business discourse.
