Abstract

Electron inelastic mean free paths and energy loss per unit pathlength for electrons in poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) are calculated for electron energies below 10 keV. An insulator model is used to describe the interactions with valence electrons. The model parameters are determined by fitting the imaginary part of the dielectric response function ϵ 2( q,ω) to experimental values for the limit q → 0. The interaction with core electrons is calculated using generalized oscillator strengths for carbon and oxygen K shell ionization.
