Abstract

Some properties of sandwich films consisting of two magnetic layers either in direct contact or separated by a nonmagnetic layer are reviewed. First, we consider various interaction phenomena which are observed: direct exchange coupling, magnetostatic couplings, as well as interactions between domain walls in different films. Interaction phenomena have a number of effects on the wall structures and energies, on the coercivity and mobility of the walls. The use of Lorentz microscopy in the study of magnetic domains and walls in two-layer films is illustrated by several examples.
