Abstract

The possible reactions between lattice partial dislocations and coincidence-related grain boundaries for f.c.c. crystals are detailed, and it is shown that dislocation absorption and/or transmission reactions have smaller energy barriers when the incident dislocation or the residue of the reaction respectively are DSC dislocations. A survey of possible reactions in low Σ boundaries indicates that significant differences might exist between the behaviors of boundaries for which Σ is an integer multiple of 3 and those for which it is not; this may explain some of the special properties exhibited by these boundaries.
