Abstract

This work aimed to study the interactions between the type of brine and emulsifier and their effects on the physical properties of olefin emulsions applied in oil well drilling fluids. It was observed that the intensity of the complexes formed between the carboxylate groups and the brine and lime ions, might be a parameter for choosing the type of emulsifier that ensures better physical stability to the emulsions. In this way, olefin emulsions with better stability were obtained from the appropriate combination of the type of emulsifier and the type of brine.
