Abstract

The integrated intensity of the dipole-induced-dipole component of the depolarized light scattering spectrum can be used as a measure of structure or order in supercooled liquids and glasses. Extracting this quantity from the observed spectrum is non-trivial. And, in addition the amount of structural information that can be extracted is limited, but it may well be the best source of such information currently obtainable. We discuss methods of evaluating this intensity, as well as its significance for structural studies.
