Abstract

In this paper a spatial probability model is developed to measure the interaction-patterns between municipalities in the case of local public services on the basis of limited and easily obtainable information data. The model is estimated for eleven public services — among others recreation and education facilities — and this yields a complete and detailed picture of the interaction-patterns for these public services between all the municipalities in The Netherlands. Moreover, the model generates an estimate of the service area size for each public service as expressed by the number of inhabitants in that area.
