Abstract

The interaction energies and frequencies of vibration of neon, argon, krypton, and xenon atoms over the surface of a basal plane of graphite have been calculated, assuming a (6–12) potential between the gas atoms and carbon atoms in the graphite lattice. The graphite lattice is approximated by a set of planes of uniform distribution of matter. The significance of the results is discussed briefly.
