Interaction of Pregnancy Physiology and Cosmetic Products with Teratogen Effect and Personal Cleaning and Care Products

Abstract

Objective: Personal cleaning, care products and cosmetics are substances which are used for cleaning, changing appearance, preservation and whose safety is ambiguous and which may contain teratogenic effects including various chemicals. There are not enough studies showing the safety of their use in pregnancy on fetus and maternal physiology. This study aims to reveal the interaction between the physiology of pregnant women and the use of cosmetics and personal hygiene and care products. Materials and Methods: In this study, a questionnaire form prepared by researchers from 20 pregnant women was obtained. The form was evaluated by presenting the items in 20 different categories according to the demographic characteristics of the pregnant women and the degree of use of cosmetic personal hygiene and care products. Results and Conclusion: As a result of the research, the most commonly used products of the pregnant women were personal hygiene and care products; shampoo, soap, toothpaste, cosmetic products; hair dye and essential makeup products. In addition to these findings, it was found that there was a significant difference between the hematopoietic system and endocrine systems in the use of these products by pregnant women, and that the frequent use of these products in physiological serum indicated deviation from normal values. According to the findings of the use of the products, it was concluded that the usage levels of the pregnant women between 18-25 years of age were significantly intense. The research shows that the use of personal hygiene, care and cosmetic products of pregnant women may have negative effects on the physiology of pregnancy. The data reveal the importance of compiling and experimenting with different dimensions in order to have negative effects on fetus as a result of the use of personal hygiene, care and cosmetic products and changes in their physiology.
