Abstract

IN a previous paper1, it was reported that a 360-mµ band of picric acid in water was found to shift to the red by about 35 mµ by addition of a concentrated solution of sodium hydroxide. Interaction of picric acid with sodium hydroxide in water has, therefore, been investigated by measurement of the absorption spectra of the picric acid solutions at various concentrations of sodium hydroxide. The results are shown in Fig. 1.
