Abstract

The dephasing of coherent longitudinal optical phonons is compared for the case of a thermally activated one-component plasma in n-type GaP and the dephasing in the presence of a two-component (electron-hole) plasma. Experimentation involves incoherent Raman scattering and time-resolved coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (TRCARS). The results for the one-component plasma are expressed in terms of simple dielectric response functions in the joint presence of the damped plasma and damped optical phonons. The results for the two-component plasma are obtained from a set of coupled equations of motion for the optical phonons, the two components of the plasma, and the dielectric displacement function.
