Abstract
The reaction of NiCl 2·6H 2O with 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid=L in n-PrOH:H 2O=1:1 solution, produced the complex {[Ni 5L 5(OH) 7]K 4·13H 2O} n . Its structure was investigated using elemental analysis, IR, UV–Vis, NMR and ES MS spectroscopy. The complex is unstable in aqueous solution and its decomposition scheme was proposed on the basis of NMR and ES MS spectra. This may contribute to the understanding of oxidative degradation of catecholic derivatives by Ni(II), as well as to other similar ones.
