Abstract

This review is devoted to the problem of regulation of intracellular organelle transport along microtubules. Properties of the system of microtubules as transport tracks are considered. Some motor proteins (kinesins and dyneins) carrying their “cargoes” in opposite directions are characterized. Special attention is paid to the analysis of transport of the organelles that can change the direction of movement. Possible molecular mechanisms coordinating the functioning of opposite motor proteins are considered.
