Abstract

The interaction between hydrogen and a metal surface in a high electric field has been known and studied since the field ion microscope has been in use. One of the most intriguing problems of the field evaporation process in the presence of hydrogen is the change of an energy deficit distribution of hydrogen ions. These changes are different for H+, H+2 and H+3. In this paper we present some new data obtained by a high-resolution pulsed laser time-of-flight atom-probe field ion microscope.
