Abstract

Copper complexes with dimethyl malonate and phenyl malonate have been investigated, polarographically in sodium perchlorate medium at μ = 2·0. Copper forms three species, i.e. 1:1, 1:2 and 1:3 which are in equilibrium. The overall formation constants β 1, β 2and β 3 for dimethylmalonate comes to 4 × 10 5, 5·3 × 10 6 and 1·6 × 10 7 and for phenyl malonate 1 × 10 5, 2·3 × 10 6 and 5·7 × 10 6 respectively. The percentage distribution of various forms of Cu(II) in both the systems have been calculated.
