Abstract

The aim of the work is to study the interaction of the chord and spanwise oscillations which induce perturbations in both magnitude and direction as in Sarma [4], in a three-dimensional incompressible oscillatory boundary layer flow past a yawed infinite cylinder. Asymptotic and matched asymptotic solutions are found for small and large frequencies and for chord and spanwise motions. In turn, the matched asymptotic solution given in this paper for large frequencies for the chordwise motion generalises the work of Ackerberg and Phillips [5] to a wedge flow. As examples yawed flat plate, yawed cylinder with a stagnation point and yawed wedge are studied in detail. The skin friction coefficients for small and large frequencies are represented graphically. Their joining and behaviours are discussed for different values of the interaction, and elongation parameters.
