Abstract
1. For an asphalt mixture of composition sand:filler 85∶15 and binder 8.5–9.5% of the mineral mass, compaction by vibration instead of pressing increases the asphalt-reinforcement cohesive strength at 293°K by a factor of 2–6, whereupon this index usually does not exceed 0.9 MPa. 2. The asphalt-reinforcement cohesive strength can be increased additionally by selecting the optimal composition of the asphalt mixture, painting the reinforcement with liquefied bitumen of grade V, with long storage in air. 3. An increase of temperature from 293 to 313°K reduces the asphalt-reinforcement cohesive strength by a factor of 2–5 and, conversely, it is increased by about 5-fold on reducing the temperature from 293 to 273°K. 4. It is impossible to provide long-term cohesion of the asphalt with the reinforcement under constantly acting shear stresses of more than 0.005 MPa. The asphalt is considerably more effective under shear and crushing. 5. A 2-cm layer of impervious asphalt reliably protects reinforcement from corrosion for at least 10 years.
