Abstract

Pedersen P. O. (1978) Interaction between short- and long-run development in regions—the case of Denmark, Reg. Studies 12, 683–700. Most regional research and planning has been concerned with long-term development only. On the other hand, regional studies of business cycles have most often been specifically short term, assuming the economic and regional structure to be constant over time. This paper attempts to bridge the gap between the short- and long-run development by focusing on the interaction between the short-run cyclical fluctuations and the long-run structural changes. Empirically this is done by a series of factor and regression analyses of the development of the Danish regional unemployment pattern over the last 25 years. Theoretically it is done by a discussion of how business cycles have interacted with industrial development and migration.
