Abstract

The author studies the interaction between the basic Norwegian reflexive marker and several frequent caritive verbs. The study shows that there are diverse forms of the interaction possible, ranging from simple derivation of reflexive forms to idiomatic change of verb’s meaning or ban on verb-reflexive pairings. The author also tries to analyze possible factors that can influence the studied interaction, i.e. causative and decausative semantics of a verb, the degree of its “specialization” on expressing caritive meaning etc. The final part of the paper studies the interaction between several Norwegian reflexive verbs and preposition uten ‘without’, such constructions are compared with similar Russian ones.
