Abstract

Two P-deficient Syrian soils (A&B) were selected. In both we compared the effects of five introduced fungi in sterile and unsterile soil. Most of them produced good infection and were effective but each fungus showed a differential effectiveness depending on whether sterile or unsterile soil was used as well as on soil characteristics. According to these results, selectively introduced VAM fungi adapted successfully, behaved efficientyly and showed good competitive abilities. Hence it may be practicable to select and introduce endophytes to improve the nutritional status of agricultural plants.
