Abstract

A specific binding test (incorporation into E. coli ribosomal subunits reconstituted from lithium cores and lithium supernatant) was used to assay the degree of structural homology between 5S RNA molecules from different origins. The two procaryotic molecules tested are recognized to some extent by the system, but none of the six eukaryotic 5S RNAs tested can be incorporated into the reconstitued subunits.
